English director Bernard Rose started out as a music video director, completing his first big success PAPERHOUSE in 1988. In his first few films he brilliantly stylized violence and horror, which culminated in his most popular film, the horror shocker CANDYMAN (1992), loosely based on a short story by Clive Barker. Rose then turned to historical dramas with IMMORTAL BELOVED (1994) and LEO TOLSTOY'S ANNA KARENINA (1997). Recently, he has released IVANSXTC (2000), a modern-day adaptation of another Leo Tolstoy story, shot on digital video, as well as a horror thriller titled SNUFF-MOVIE (2005). His latest project is THE KREUTZER SONATA, another Tolstoy adaptation, which is currently in post-production.
