Sam Raimi (*1959)

Sam Raimi began his career directing low-budget horror films, such as THE EVIL DEAD-trilogy. He also likes to act in films which were made by his pals, the Coen brothers, for whose films he has also done second unit directing.
Raimi is a cult star and has never belied his B-movie origins, until perhaps his recent 1999 film FOR LOVE OF THE GAME. To pick the best of all the films he has made so far is not an easy task. It is probably ARMY OF DARKNESS, the third part of the EVIL DEAD-trilogy, which most have only seen in a shorter 80m.-version. The European version runs some 89m.
In the 1990s Raimi also worked for television, as a producer of fantasy series like Xena or Hercules. He advanced to a blockbuster director in 2002 with SPIDERMAN. Filmography below omits his work for TV, especially the Hercules and Young Hercules TV series.
